The Professional Institute Scholarship Program

The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada is the country's largest multi-professional union, representing 49,000 professionals and scientists across Canada.

The Professional Institute Scholarship Program was created in 1999 to assist the families of members with educational expenses and to promote the Institute as an organization committed to educational advancement. The Scholarship Program was set up through a perpetual trust fund created with group donations, initiated by the former Commerce Group.

Beginning in 2004, 12 scholarships totalling $35,000 will be awarded annually through three series:

  • The President's Series (2 scholarships of $5,000)
  • The Founders' Series (5 scholarships of $1,500)
  • The Leaders' Series (5 field-specific scholarships of $3,500)

Nelligan O'Brien Payne is pleased to be a contributor in the Leaders Series. Each scholarship is linked to a specific field of study and is named for a Professional Institute Gold Medal laureate, to underline the Institute's commitment to excellence. The Institute awards a Gold Medal annually since 1937, to recognize professional public service employees whose outstanding work has led to the improvement and enhancement of public well-being.
