John Peart is a partner at Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP. He has a wealth of experience and expertise in the areas of wills and estate planning, complex estate litigation, condominium law, and business law.
John was certified in 2005 by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Estates and Trusts Law. He is regularly consulted and retained by individuals as well as other law firms to act on their behalf and also to mediate difficult estate issues. John is an active speaker and writer on estate and power of attorney matters.
In 2003, John was made a Fellow of the Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI), which is the highest honour that a condominium professional can achieve. He is past President of the Ottawa Chapter of the CCI, and past President of the National Board. As a result of his long-standing and active involvement with the CCI, John is well known by condominium owners and managers throughout Ontario. He has also devoted significant time writing and speaking on condominium law and issues of interest to the condominium community.
John always strives for a personal interaction with his clients, to learn more about them as people, and thereby craft tailored solutions to their unique situations. He is not only an excellent problem-solver, but he is also empathetic and sensitive to his clients’ needs.
John has been involved for many years with not-for-profit entities and the local community, and he is a frequent speaker on issues related to health care and seniors. Of his many community involvements, he is most proud to be Honorary Legal Counsel to the Community Foundation of Ottawa as well as to the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, an area of health care which he feels very strongly about.
John is also passionate about exploring the world, and has travelled extensively in Europe and across North America. On weekends he can usually be found at his cottage. He is devoted to his flower and vegetable garden there, and enjoys seeing things grow and flourish.
