Many refugees and immigrants to Canada will not have an understanding of the many laws and benefits meant to protect employees. Because of this, new Canadians are a potentially vulnerable group, which employers could take advantage of.

We hope to provide individuals who are assisting new Canadians with settling in Ottawa, with the information to ensure that they are aware of the rights employees have, as well as the many avenues of support available if they run into a problem. We intend to cover:

  1. Minimum Employment Standards and Other Employee Rights;
  2. Workplace Human Rights;
  3. Workplace Harassment;
  4. Workplace Health and Safety; and
  5. Avenues for Redress.
