Dougald Brown is a partner at Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP, and has practised here for almost thirty years. He is a member of the Labour Law, Employment Law, and Indigenous Law practice groups, and has overseen a wide range of cases at trial and appellate levels.
Dougald has also handled a wide variety of matters before the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Canada Labour Relations Board, the Public Service Staff Relations Board, and the Parliamentary Employees Staff Relations Board. He has also appeared as counsel in the Federal Court and Supreme Court of Canada in proceedings involving labour, employment, indigenous Law, privacy, and human rights issues.
Dougald worked as a journalist and was a member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery before taking up a career in law. He also worked with national Inuit organizations for several years on land claims and other Indigenous and northern issues. Dougald is co-author of Oil Under the Ice, a book dealing with oil exploration in the Arctic.
Dougald has taught at the Bar Admission Course and at the University of Ottawa. He has also been selected to be included in the 2013, and 2014-2017 editions of The Best Lawyers in Canada for Employment/Labour and Aboriginal Law.
