Ludmilla Jarda is an associate lawyer with Nelligan Law, and a member of our Personal InjuryEmployment Law , and Litigation practice groups

Milla provides a range of services to her clients, advising on issues related to personal injury, employment law, and general litigation. She has handled a wide variety of claims, including matters concerning motor vehicle accidents, wrongful death, medical malpractice, slip-and-falls, long-term disability and professional negligence. As for her employment law practice, she focuses on a variety of workplace issues including human rights issues, wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, disability insurance claims as well as negotiating employment contracts. She is fluently bilingual and represents her clients in both English and French.

Milla is committed to finding practical solutions for her clients and to resolving their legal issues in a cost-effective manner. She approaches files with an analytical mindset to develop effective litigation strategy. She is an experienced litigator having appeared before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Small Claims Court, the Licence Appeal Tribunal as well as the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. She has conducted trials, including judge and jury trials, and administrative tribunal hearings both with senior counsel and on her own.

In addition to her legal practice, Milla enjoys teaching and mentoring. She has led multiple group discussions on the rules of professional conduct and practice management for candidates enrolled in the Law Society of Ontario licensing process through the Law Practice Program. She taught debtors’ and creditors’ rights to postsecondary students. She is a member of Ottawa’s Advocacy Club, an organization that promotes trial advocacy skills, and she co-chaired the Advocacy Club Bootcamp on Trial Advocacy. She also coached law students enrolled in the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law’s Dispute Resolution and Professional Responsibility Program.

Milla is currently the chair of the Ontario Bar Association Young Lawyers Division East and secretary of the Equality Committee for this association. She was a panelist for the “Workplace Landmines” seminar organized by the University of Ottawa’s Women and the Law Association where she discussed how women can navigate gendered discrimination and/or harassment in the workplace. At the firm, Milla is a co-chair of the Associates’ Committee and a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Before joining the firm, Milla gained experience practising in the areas of personal injury, insurance defence and employment law at a litigation boutique firm here in Ottawa. During law school, she participated in the Sopinka Cup and the Gale Cup, and she won the McKelvey Cup and the Pierre Armand Landry Cup. She was awarded the prize for best cross-examination at the McKelvey Cup. Milla has since been involved with Ottawa’s Advocacy Club, an organization that promotes trial advocacy skills.

Outside the office, Milla enjoys travelling and spending time with family and friends.
